Somali youth return from training camp in Spain

Nairobi- Kenya (PANA) -- Four Somali youths, fresh from a two-week summer camp in Spain courtesy of the Real Madrid Football Club, Friday sent passionate appeals to the international community to support sports initiatives among the youth in the war-torn country as part of peace-building measures.
The trip to Madrid was initiated through the UN Political Office for Somalia and supported by the Rotary Clubs of Las Vegas in Nevada, USA, and in Nairobi, Kenya, and Kobo Safaris and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Abdi Bashir Abdi, 17, and Mohamed Yusuf Hassan, 15, from Hargeisa, and Yusuf Ali Morgan, 17, from Merca, and Nuune Xuseen Cabdi, 17, from Mogadishu, were the lucky youth who made the trip to Spain.
The appeal from the youths, who spoke to the media at the UN Development Programme offices for Somalia here, was echoed by the UNDP officials who said the returning youths would now act as "messengers of peace" in the strife torn Horn of African country.
