Six killed in Mogadishu car bomb attack

Mogadishu, Somalia (PANA) – At least six people have been killed and several others wounded in a massive car bomb attack outside a hotel in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, on Thursday afternoon, according to local news service Garowe Online.

It quoted eyewitnesses saying that a car laden with explosives went off outside Wehliye Hotel on the busy Makka Al Mukarama Road which is lined with government offices, hotels and restaurants.

The death toll is likely to rise as many of the wounded were in critical condition when they were taken to hospitals, according to Police officer Liban Abdi who spoke to the newsmen by phone from the scene.

Reports said the explosion was caused by an explosives-laden vehicle parked outside the hotel which is frequented by Somalia’s elites, including politicians, civil servants and security personnel. Most of the casualties were pedestrians and street vendors.

On 23 February, Al Shabaab terrorist movement carried out twin car bomb and gun attacks near the Presidential Palace in the capital, killing at least 45 people.
