Seven leaders to witness Sierra Leone's weapons destruction

Freetown- Sierra Leone (PANA) -- President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah of Sierra Leone has invited seven West African leaders to come to his country to witness the official burning and destruction of weapons collected from four armed factions involved the 10-year- old conflict.
According to presidential spokesman Septimus Kaikai, the invitations have been sent to Presidents Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, Guinea's Lansana Conte, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Alpha Omar Konare of Mali, Charles Taylor of Liberia, Yayah Jammeh of The Gambia and Guinea Bissau's Kumba Yala.
The three-day exercise starts on 19 January.
It is expected that more than 46,000 arms and ammunitions, including mortar bombs and automatic rifles, will be burnt as a symbolic end to the war.
Kaikai said that Kabbah and his guests would witness the arms destruction in Makeni, Bo and Kenema Districts.
The occasion will also be an opportunity for Conte and Taylor to meet for the very first time since an insurgent war broke out in Guinea.
