Senegalese soldier amputated by landmine in Casamance

Ziguinchor- Senegal (PANA) -- A Senegalese soldier has been injured by landmine near Camarakounda, about 25-km east of Ziguinchor, the main city in the country's troubled southern Casamance region, military sources said Friday.
The sources said the right leg of the soldier from the 8th Company, was amputated by the device Thursday.
Another source said he would be evacuated to Dakar after first-aid treatment at a Ziguinchor hospital.
Fighting broke out Wednesday in the area, particularly around Niaguis, between Senegalese regular troops and presumed members of the Casamance Movement of Democratic Forces (MFDC).
Two suspected rebels have been reported killed in the clash.
Southern Senegal, an agricultural and tourist region has since 1982, been gripped by armed conflict with the MFDC seeking separation of Casamance.
