Senegalese president tasks Ivorians on national reconciliation

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - Speaking on the sidelines of the 20th Summit of the African Union (AU), which began here Sunday, Senegalese President Macky Sall has called on Ivorians to continue their political dialogue until they can achieve national reconciliation, since his mediation mission in Côte d'Ivoire had ended.

"The dialogue I initiated between the Ivorian political actors must continue so they can achieve national reconciliation," President Sall told a group of journalists shortly after his appointment Saturday as Chair of the Heads of State and Government Committee on the New Partnership for Africa's Development (HSGOC).

"I was contacted by various Ivorian political actors to facilitate dialogue in this neighboring country. This I accepted but now that they are speaking directly, my mediation mission is over," he added.

A close ally of the Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, President Sall also maintains good relations with the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI opposition) of former president Laurent Gbagbo.
