Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- The government of Senegal has indicated it was aiming at a vaccination coverage well beyond the 80 percent target fixed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to improve especially the health of children.
This was the major conclusion at a National Forum on the expanded programme on immunisation (EPI), which ended here Thursday.
Members of government, the administration, local council representatives, community organisations and development partners attended the two-day meeting.
To attain this goal, there is need to establish a solid link between the community as a whole and health services, participants stressed.
In his closing statement, Health minister Issa Mbaye Samb announced the institution of a corps of volunteers to strengthen links between the community and health services in the enforcement of preventive measures.
"These volunteers will help in the implementation of appropriate strategies to raise public awareness on the importance of vaccination," Samb explained.
