Senegal's air traffic drops

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- A 5.
7 percent decrease in aircraft traffic was registered at all Senegalese airports which handled 35,755 planes in 2000 compared with 37,921 the previous year, the country's news agency (APS) reports.
The Forecast and Statistical Division attributed the drop to the utilisation of bigger jumbo aircraft, which picked a higher number of passengers at a goal.
It noted however that the number of passengers increased by 4.
7 percent from 1,086,210 in 1999 to 1,136,746 in December 2000 while transit passengers rose from 20,580 to 34,008.
On the other hand, freight cargo increased from 26,349 tonnes in 1999 to 27,982 last year.
The division said that 22,381 tonnes of the country's imports transited through airports in 2000 compared with 20,827 tonnes the previous year.
