Senegal declares three-day national mourning for Mandela

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – The Senegalese government has declared three days of national mourning to honor the memory of Nelson Mandela, who died on Thursday night aged 95.

Abdou Latif Coulibaly, spokesman to the government, said in a communique that the national flag would fly at half-mast for three days.

He added that President Macky Sall, his government and the whole country pay tribute to Mandela.

"The man who has left us has been able to deal with all human situations with dignity, courage and engagement for the good of his people, of Africa and the whole humanity," he said.

For his part, Moustapha Diakhaté, chairman of the Majority Group in the National Assembly of Senegal, said: “Mandela was one of the greatest sons of humanity, who strongly awakened the conscience of oppressed people through his courageous struggle against apartheid.”
