Senegal: Govt. urges lasting solution to Israeli-Palestinian crisis
Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – The Senegalese government on Friday expressed the wish for a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, sparked by the Israeli air raids on Gaza strip.
In a statement issued after the weekly council of ministers' meeting, the Senegalese government said that the solutions must take into account “the legitimate rights” of the Palestinian people.
Since 1975, Senegal has been chairing the UN Committee for the execution of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
Last Saturday, the government urged restraint on the part of Israel, calling for an immediate ceasefire while reaffirming its solidarity and support to the Palestinian cause.
It expressed deep concerns over the escalation of violence between the Israeli army and the Palestinian former combatants.
At least, 267 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed since the beginning of the Israeli air raids on 8 July, a reaction to the rocket attacks launched from Gaza strip by Hamas fighters.
