Senegal: Ghana to host conference on Media, governance

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – Ghana will play host to a sub-regional conference on Media and Participatory governance which will run between 15-17 March at the Mensvic Grand Hotel in Accra, the capital.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) said the conference will bring together participants from leading free expression and media development organisations from all 16 countries in West Africa.

The theme of the conference revolves around ''Promoting Professional Journalism for Good Governance in West Africa''.

Participants will deliberate on and identify key challenges in the areas of freedom of the expression and the role of the media in promoting good governance, regional integration and peace in West Africa.

Mr Moumina Chérif Sy, President for the Transitional Parliament of Burkina Faso, will deliver the keynote address and the conference will also feature panel discussions with national, regional and international experts in the areas of access to information offline and online, and safety of journalists.

Meanwhile, expected at the conference are representatives from the ECOWAS Commission, UN agencies and donors, and civil society groups.
