Rwanda: Rwanda's President Kagame names Edouard Ngirente as new PM

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwandan President Paul Kagame has appointed Edouard Ngirente, a senior economist at the World Bank in Washington, as the new prime minister, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday from the President's office in Kigali.

Ngirente, who also served previously as a senior civil servant in the Rwandan ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, will replace Anastase Murekezi, who assumed office in late July 2014.

This appointment is the first major decision by President Kagame after he was elected for a third term as president and will be critical to his future success as he promised major changes in terms of economic reforms during his campaign.

President Kagame, in collaboration with the new Prime Minister, is expected to announce his full government line up before the end of this week.
