Rwanda: RwandAir Express to launch new routes to Cotonou, Abidjan

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - Rwandan flag carrier, RwandAir Express, will run flights between Benin's largest city, Cotonou and the main Ivorian city of Abidjan from 2 September, an official statement made available on Tuesday to PANA in Kigali said.

The flights to Cotonou would be tagged to the existing Kigali-Douala and Libreville routes, while the flights to Abidjan would be tagged with Accra. Both schedules into Cotonou and Abidjan would be on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and out of Cotonou and Abidjan on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, the statement said.

According to the airline, Cotonou and Abidjan will take the airline’s network to 19 destinations, all connecting through Kigali.

"With the addition of these two destinations, RwandAir continues to fulfill its mission of connecting Rwanda with West Africa to build sustainable ties among sister African cities and enable trade and tourism," the Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of RwandAir, Jean Paul Nyirubutama, was quoted as saying.

Reports indicate that RwandAir is also looking to link Rwanda with Asia starting with China, specifically Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing and India through Mumbai.

By 2020, RwandAir plans to have a fleet of about 20 aircraft, it said.
