Rwanda: RwandAir Express acquires new B737-800 series aircraft

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) -  Rwanda's flag carrier RwandAir Express on Wednesday announced it  has taken delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 series aircraft as it continues to extend its network.

As part of its expansion strategy, the airline in September this year received its first wide-bodied A330 (200 series) aircraft. It is now set to receive its fourth B737-800NG in May 2017, and its second A330 (300 series) on 30 November 2016.

In a statement made available to PANA in Kigali, RwandAir said the latest addition on its fleet is a 154-seater, equipped with inflight connectivity on a line-fit programme in a dual- class cabin configuration.

"The proven operating economics and passenger comfort make the aircraft the right equipment to deploy on our medium haul flights," remarked the airline's CEO John Mirenge.
"As we continue to expand our network, we are delighted to offer a Wi-Fi fully connected aircraft to serve today’s sophisticated traveller.”

The Rwandan government, which owns the airline, has pledged to build a new US$700 million international airport at Bugesera, southeast of Kigali, in a bid to support the airline's goal to leverage Rwanda's ideal location in the heart of Africa and develop a regional hub that would rival major international airports in the region.
