Rwanda: Govt. to send troops to troubled CAR

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The Rwandan Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister, Mrs. Louise Mushikiwabo, said here Thursday that her country would deploy 800 soldiers to the Central African Republic (CAR) shortly, as part of the international support mission under the leadership of the African Union (AU).

"We have responded positively to the AU demand," she said, adding that the present situation in CAR was still confusing. The troops have already been trained," the Minister said.

CAR has been embroiled in clashes between Christians and Muslims since the past three months, claiming over 1,500 lives, according to humanitarian organisations.

Rwanda has previously contributed troops for peace purposes in several African countries, including Darfur, Sudan, Liberia, South Sudan and Côte d'Ivoire.
