Rwanda: Australian parliamentary delegation visits Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - An Australian parliamentary delegation, led by Bruce Norman Atkinson, President of the Legislative Council in Victoria state, is visiting Rwanda to strengthen and expand bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries, an official source said on Monday in Kigali.

The source said discussions between the two parties will focus on cooperation in various areas of political and socio-economic development.

The Australian parliamentary delegation, visiting Rwanda for the first time, will also meet separately with senior Rwandan government officials in a move to further promote friendly relations and solidarity.

In November 2014, bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Australia took a new direction with the then Rwandan senior diplomat in Tokyo, Japan, Charles Murigande, presenting his credentials to the then Governor General of Australia, Michael Jeffery.

According to the Rwanda Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the two countries have agreed on Education Cooperation aimed at providing skills improvement of Rwandan Teachers.

There are about 2,000 Rwandans resident in Australia, according to diplomatic figures.
