Rwanda, DR Congo soldiers exchange fire on joint border

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - In another cross-border firing incident, soldiers of DR Congo and Rwanda exchanged fire late on Thursday along the joint border in Musanze district in northern Rwanda in what has been described as a violation of Rwandan territory.

The statement issued on Friday by Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) said that the Rwandan army has defended its positions from Rwanda and not DRC as it is being falsely claimed.

"The handover of casualties, weapons and ammunition is yet to follow," the military statement said.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that military experts from the DR Congo-based Joint Verification Mechanism (JVM) have launched investigations to ascertain circumstances under which Congolese armed forces (FARDC) violated Rwanda’s territorial integrity as reported by Rwanda.

The probe by the JVM that is composed of officers from different countries in the region, was requested by RDF to establish the motive of the attack on their base.
