Russia: Ministers move to make sports more ethical, inclusive and sustainable

Kazan, Russia (PANA) - Sports ministers and senior officials representing 100 UNESCO Member states will attend the 6th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sports (MINEPS VI), in Kazan, Russia, from 13 to 15 July 2017.

MINEPS VI sets out to be a game changer as countries have agreed to take actions with measurable results, building on the shared values and principles they were able to identify at previous MINEPS conferences.

According to UNESCO, participants, among them 60 sports ministers, will develop a comprehensive vision of inclusive access to sports with a view to promoting sports and physical activity among women and men of all ages and physical condition.

They will also seek ways to maximize the contribution of sports to sustainable development and to protect the integrity of sports, including professional sports.

Participants in the conference will decide on the follow-up to the Declaration of Berlin adopted by MINEPS V and on a new International Charter of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sports.

They will furthermore examine how sports can contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda for 2030.
