Russia: Cote d'Ivoire humiliates Russia 2-0 in soccer friendly

Moscow, Russia (PANA) - Jonathan Kodjia of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha sparked Cote d'Ivoire to a 2-0 win over Russia in a friendly at Krasnodar on Friday.

It was Russia's third defeat in six matches since Stanislav Cherchesov took over as manager in August -- the other two coming against Costa Rica and Qatar last year.

Ivorian caretaker coach Ibrahim Kamara admitted his side had ridden their luck. "It was a tough match, like we expected," he told the press. "We had to endure tough pressure. Our team are young and a defeat would not have been a disaster for us -- but I'm happy we won tonight. Russia's players looked really strong."

Coach Cherchesov, who was appointed after the country's disastrous Euro 2016 campaign, faces the daunting task of trying to rejuvenate the team ahead of next year's World Cup on home turf -- he has set his players the goal of reaching the semi-finals.

And below are results of some matches played across Africa.

France-born defenders scored the goals that gave Comoros a rare international victory on Friday as they beat Mauritius 2-0 in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Cameroon began their reign as African champions with a 1-0 win on Friday over Tunisia in Monastir, thanks to a Vincent Aboubakar goal.

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho's penalty seven minutes from time secured a 1-1 draw with Senegal, preserving Nigeria coach unbeaten run.

A late equalizer from Hassan Waiswa earned Uganda a 1-1 draw with Kenya in an international friendly at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Thursday.
