Royal Air Morocco cancels flights to Abidjan

Rabat, Morocco (PANA) - Royal Air Morocco (RAM) has canceled its Friday flights to Abidjan, the economic capital of Cote d'Ivoire, while the Moroccan bank, Attijariwafa, has suspended operations of its subsidiary, the Ivorian Bank Company (SIB), reported MAP news agency.

RAM's decision followed the announcement on Thursday by the government of acclaimed president-elect, Alassane Ouattara, to close its borders.

About 51 per cent of the SIB shares are held by Attijariwafa, against the 49 per cent held by the Ivorian government.

The bank has already announced the temporary suspension of its activities throughout the Ivorian territory.

The security situation in Cote d'Ivoire worsened in recent days following the massive offensive launched by forces loyal to Ouattara to forcibly take power from Gbagbo.
