Reunion to make strong presence at jamboree of Indian Diaspora

Saint Denis- Reunion (PANA) -- The Indian Ocean will be strongly represented at the first jamboree of the Indian Diaspora holding 9-11 January in New Delhi, Indian consul general in Saint Denis, Prabhati Lal affirmed Tuesday.
Lal said a 40-strong delegation will represent Reunion at the event that would feature delegations from more than 110 countries across the world.
The Reunion delegation includes General Council vice-presidents Serge Camatchy and Axel Kichenin, both of Indian origin.
Others are representatives of cultural associations advocating closer ties with India.
Lal said the event, organised at the behest India's ministry of Foreign Affairs has the objective of making Indians aware of the "depth, variety and achievements of the Indian Diaspora, and to sensitise them on the problems and aspirations of the sub continent.
" Concerning the choice of 9 January as opening date for the event, he observed that "it was the date on which Mahatma Gandhi, himself member of the Indian Diaspora in South Africa for two decades, finally returned to India to fight for the independence of his country.
