Research group condemns decline of democracy in francophone Africa

Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- A research organisation, the Study and Research Group on Democracy and Economic and Social Development in Africa (GERDESS-Africa), on Saturday condemned the decline of democracy in francophone Africa.
"Democracy is declining everywhere in Africa.
As a result, there is the advent of democratic dynasties, without any hope for change," said the Cotonou-based NGO in a statement on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of La Francophonie.
It said the anniversary should be the occasion to remind people of the Bamako resolutions whose anniversary is also being celebrated.
The statement said to maintain peace in francophone Africa, "it is high time people held new Bamako talks so that La Francophonie gets the means for its good intentions for the most profitable democratic practices for development, which are the result of good governance and democratic change".
