Rebels kill at least three people

Bujumbura- Burundi (PANA) -- Armed bandits killed one person, stole cows and looted shops in an attack Wednesday morning in the Mikoni business centre, a commune of Bukinanyana in the north- western province of Cibitoke, the Burundi Press Agency (ABP) reported Thursday.
The attack was reportedly carried out by Burundi rebels in the town of Kiruhura near the Lakibira forest known as a stronghold of the Democratic Defence Forces (FDD), ABP said.
The agency said that the rebels were going back and forth between the forest and several localities in the province of Cibitoke.
In another incident recently in the neighbouring locality of Kabondo, still in the perimeter of Kibira, one person was killed and several shops looted, the ABP added.
An attack attributed to the FDD took place in the night of Wednesday through Thursday morning in the urban centre of Bukeye in the central province of Muramvya, radio Bonesha FM reported.
Quoting a local official, the radio said that two people were killed, a civilian and a rebel, and livestock was stolen by the assailants.
Meanwhile, the sound of automatic guns could be heard throughout Wednesday night in the western area of the capital city near Bujumbura International Airport.
No casualties or damage to property were reported.
