Rebel attack leaves one dead in Bujumbura

Bujumbura- Burundi (PANA) -- Official sources in Bujumbura reported Saturday that at least one person was killed in the locality of Kanyosha, south of the Burundi capital, in a rebel attack last night.
The national radio said armed men trying to infiltrate the capital killed one man and looted several homes in Kanyosha before being beaten off by government forces.
A similar attack was reported in the northern suburb of Bujumbura.
Meanwhile, National Route Number 1 has been closed to traffic for three days in the wake of continuing clashes now in their third week in rural Bujumbura between government and rebel troops.
The strategic road connects the capital to the central and northern regions of Burundi and neighbouring countries such as Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.
