President Kerekou leaves for AU summit

Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- Beninese President Mathieu Kerekou left Cotonou Monday morning at the head of a high-level delegation for Sirte, Libya to participate in the 5th AU heads of state and government ordinary session, which opens Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Beninese Ministry for Foreign Affairs and African Integration, African leaders at the summit will examine the AU Commission's activities relating to the implementation of the Pan-African projects and programmes.
The Sirte summit will also address such issues as the creation of an African centre for infectious and endemic diseases and HIV/AIDS, recognition of sickle cell anaemia as a public health priority by the World Health Assembly and danger of imported seeds for the African continent.
The African leaders are also expected to address the possibility to set up a Pan-African television channel and the organisation of a summit between African, Latin American and Caribbean leaders.
