President Compaore lauds cultural diversity

Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso (PANA) -- Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore said here Friday that cultural diversity could boost universal values if the international community embraced the notions of integration and solidarity.
Addressing the 10th summit of the International Francophonie Organisation (OIF), Compaore said the organisation is upset when one of its members is in a crisis.
"It is distressed when a rejection of the ideals and values it holds plunges its own peoples into mourning and insecurity," he said.
While commending France and the other states for the sacrifices made towards a peaceful solution to the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire, Haiti and the Great Lakes region, he urged continued support for mediation efforts.
Compaore said that by the 10th summit to sustainable development, the OIF includes among its concerns the management of global issues arising from the interdependence of nations.
"These include collective conflict prevention and resolution, food security, reduction of arms trafficking and the promotion of human rights," he said.
