President Aziz reassures countrymen 'I am well'

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has again assured his countrymen of his state of health saying he is well, the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) reported on Wednesday.

It said President Aziz was speaking during talks on the phone with Dr Abdel Salam Ould Horma, current chairman of the Mauritanian Convention for Peaceful Regeneration (CAP), a coalition affiliated to the ruling political majority, and Mohamed Ould Vall, leader of Ravah party.

The news agency said President Aziz spoke about "his state of health which is improving and his return shortly to his country to continue the nation building job".

The opposition coalition has denounced the news blackout on the the president's state of health and demanded a medical report on his condition.

It is also calling for a transitional government to end "the constitutional vacuum" following the evacuation of President Aziz to France after he was accidentally shot at a checkpoint in Nouakchott about one month ago.
