Police and gendarmerie commanders rally to Ouattara's side

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) – Senior commander of the Ivorian national gendarmerie,  Edouard Kassaraté, and the director of police, Brindou M'Bia, on Monday ordered their officers to surrender to the new Ivorian political authorities.

In their declarations broadcast by Télé Côte d'Ivoire, the two officers announced their decision to rally to the side of the Republican Forces of Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI) of Alassane Ouattara, the man internationally recognised as winner of the Ivorian presidential election.

The police chief, M'Bia urged policemen of all ranks to join their various units immediately to continue their duty of protecting people and goods.

General Kassaraté urged gendarmes to surrender to the new authorities.

Announcing the arrest of incumbent president Laurent Gbagbo on Monday afternoon by FRCI, the Prime minister of Alassane Ouattara, Guillaume Soro, called on forces loyal to Gbagbo to rally to FRCI.
