Pires to attend African intellectuals forum in Dakar

Praia- Cape Verde (PANA) -- Cape Verdean President Pedro Pires will attend the first conference of intellectuals from Africa and the Diaspora billed for Dakar, Senegal from 7-9 October, presidential sources disclosed here Tuesday.
The Dakar meeting will convene on the theme "Africa in the 21st Century: Integration and Revival", with some 600 participants mainly from the Black race expected to attend.
Issues for deliberation include Pan-Africanism, contributions of intellectuals from Africa and the Diaspora to the reinforcement of African integration and improving relations between the continent and its Diaspora.
The conference would be hosted by Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, under the aegis of the African Union, and will be preceded on the eve by a "Nobel Prize Gala" to be attended by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and several heads of state and government, as well as celebrities from Africa and the Diaspora.
The forum will also include cultural events and a "generation dialogue" at which several renowned personalities will discuss with young Africans on the theme: "Which Africa for the 21st Century?" On the sidelines of the gala, art exhibitions and live performances by an array of musicians and other artists would be staged on the former slave post of Goree Island, off the coast of Dakar.
