Paris Mayor calls for civilian protection in Côte d'Ivoire

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - The Mayor of Paris and chair of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF), Mr. Bertrand Delanoe, has called for the protection of civilians in Côte d'Ivoire.

Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of the AIMF here Monday, he pleaded for "the protection and guarantees of safety for the Ivorian people."

Mr Delanoe said the AIMF "has no political position" on the Ivorian crisis.

"The cohesion of the Ivorian people, their desire for peace, democracy and development should be preserved as well as their right to elect a president in full sovereignty of the Republic," he said.
