Ouattara to start judicial proceeding against Gbagbo

Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - President-elect of Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Alassane Ouattara, has announced that a judicial proceeding will soon be initiated against outgoing president Laurent Gbagbo, his wife, Simone, and his close associates.

Gbagbo was arrested Monday to end the lingering post-electoral crisis in the West African nation.

"To ensure the rule of law, I ask the Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice and Human Rights to initiate judicial proceedings against Laurent Gbagbo, his wife and his collaborators," Ouattara said in a televised speech.

"They will be treated with dignity and their rights will be respected," Mr. Ouattara promised.

He said that all arrangements are made to ensure the physical integrity of all those who were arrested during the arrest of Mr Gbagbo.
