Ouattara sets reconciliation, reconstruction as priority in Cote d'Ivoire

Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) - President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire said here Wednesday that his two major priorities in rebuilding the West African nation were reconciliation and reconstruction.

At a press conference, Ouattara asked Ivorians to trust him, reassuring them that "we will come out of this crisis stronger, because we'll set to work," promising to "fight against impunity, strengthen the rule of law and build strong institutions for Cote d’Ivoire."

He said efforts would be made to reconcile Ivorians through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that he promised to set up in order to shed light on the events in the country since the coup of 1999.

Ouattara said that “Ivorians must know the truth about events in their country."
