Organisation of SADC Games to cost a million dollars

Namaacha- Mozambique (PANA) -- Youth and Sports minister Joel Libombo has said Mozambique would require a least a million US dollars to host the next Southern African Development Community (SADC) Games billed for April-May 200r in Maputo.
Speaking after a meeting of SADC Sports ministers held last Friday in the southern town of Namaacha, Libombo said that as host country, Mozambique would have chip in 200,000 dollars, while the rest would come from the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) and a sponsor.
The games were transferred to Mozambique after attempts to hold them in Lesotho and Malawi failed.
The SADC Council of Ministers has fined Malawi 100,000 dollars for the fiasco.
The fine is to be paid in two instalments of 50,000 dollars, the first of which is due by 31 December this year.
Some 1,500 competitors below 20 are expected to take part in the games, which will feature several disciplines, including athletics, basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, boxing and netball.
