One dies in militia/security forces clash in Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - One person died and four others were injured following clashes between militias and security forces Tuesday in front of the offices of the Prime Minister in Tripoli, the chairman of the security commission in the Libyan capital, Hachem Béchir, said.

In a statement sent to the Libyan news agency (Wal), Mr Bechir said the fighting began after an armed militia stormed the offices of the Prime Minister to demand the payment of bonuses.

Talks by the Defence Minister Oussama Jouini, interim government spokesperson Nasr Al-Manai and the chairman of the security commission in Tripoli with the militia, aimed at averting the crisis, failed.

Mr Hachem identified the person who died in the clashes as Ali Al-Ghaoud.

He said several members of the militia have been arrested and their arms seized, while the others have escaped.
