OIF reaffirms support to Middle East Road Map

Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso (PANA) -- Leaders who attended the 10th Francophonie summit held here from 26-27 November expressed concern at the continuing violence in the Middle East and the group's attachment to the "Road Map", saying its implementation remains "the sole means to revive the peace process.
" In a resolution devoted to the Middle-East, the heads of state and governments of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) expressed "deep sympathy" for Palestinians following the passing of Yasser Arafat.
They also reiterated support for the Arab peace initiative, unanimously adopted at the Arab summit held 27-28 March 2002.
The summit appreciated the vote by the UN General Assembly on the consultative advise of the International Court of Justice, which ruled that the construction of a wall in the occupied territories beyond the 1949 armistice line was contrary to international law.
The French-speaking body urged all parties to the conflict to fulfil their engagements to the Road Map and the international community to mobilise for the organisation of democratic elections involving all the Palestinians, including those in East Jerusalem.
OIF leaders also reasserted "full commitment" for a fair, comprehensive and sustainable solution to the Middle East conflict.
