OIF adopts world solidarity fund resolution

Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso (PANA) -- Leaders of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) adopted a resolution on the World Solidarity Fund (WSF) during their last session Saturday here.
The resolution, passed at the two-day summit, reiterated the organisation's will to pursue efforts to get the fund operating immediately and effectively to reduce poverty and consecrate the principle of solidarity.
The statute urged all Francophonie members to promote the fund, appealing to civil society, foundations, the private sector and individuals to mobilise the financial resources needed to launch the mechanism.
The resolution, which was proposed by Tunisia, was based on the one adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 2002 containing the effective and immediate creation of the WSF.
