OIC hails peace efforts in Sierra Leone, urges aid for Guinea

Bamako- Mali (PANA) -- The 28th ministerial session of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) that wound up in Bamako, Mali Wednesday, has lauded the deployment of a UN mission in Sierra Leone.
The forum urged financial and humanitarian institutions to help in efforts towards the country's economic and social rehabilitation, as well as the repatriation of refugees from neighbouring countries.
On a similar note, the OIC Foreign ministers called for increased assistance from the Islamic Development Bank to the Republic of Guinea, which is struggling with an influx of refugees.
The ministers also exhorted the UN High Commission for Refugees to allocate additional resources to Guinea help it cope with the refugee problem there.
They detailed the secretary general of the OIC to despatch a mission to evaluate the situation in Guinea.
