Abuja- Nigeria (PANA) -- Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo will perform the ground breaking ceremony for the Nelson Mandela African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Abuja, next week, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Desmond Akawor, said here Tuesday.
The university is the brain child of the World Bank, African Development Bank (ADB), the French government and 52 other African countries.
It would bring together academics from African Diaspora for the training of first rate scientists and engineers capable of transforming the oil and gas sectors and other aspects of the African economy.
The school will commence admission of students in September.
Conducting journalists round the proposed site for the university Tuesday, Akawor said AUST was part of the planned Abuja Technology Village, where the government intends to set up a cluster of research institutes and hi-technology companies.
