ONUCI laments escalation of violence in Côte d'Ivoire

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) – The UN Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI) has expressed concern at the level of violence that has hit Abidjan over the past  several days.

The deaths were recorded through demonstrations held in Abidjan and its suburb, a statement issued on Tuesday in the Ivorian economic capital.

ONUCI condemned "the inappropriate use of force", particularly the resort to heavy weapons.

It urged all parties to "show a sense of restraint as political and diplomatic efforts are being made at a highest level to find a peaceful solution to the post-electoral crisis".

Several sources said over the past few days, at least 12 people have been killed and 37 others injured.
