Nigerian state governor, other officials undergo HIV test

Lagos- Nigeria (PANA) -- To encourage the over 10 million residents of Lagos state to know their HIV status, the state governor, Babatunde Fashola, and members of his cabinet were Monday tested for HIV/AIDS test.
The governor told journalists after the test that it was aimed at showing leader ship by example.
The exercise was organized by the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency of the Ministry of Health, with the theme:"Know your status".
The governor then implored residents of the state to get themselves screened for the disease in government hospitals, where testing is free.
He said testing positive to the virus was not the end of the world, but would af ford those concerned to know their status and what should be the next step to be taken by them.
"Knowing one's status does not translate to death sentence for the victim since the state government has put in place measures to treat those (who) tested positive to the virus," he explained.
