Nigerian Diaspora elects new representatives

Dallas- US (PANA) -- Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) at the weekend in Dallas, U.
S.
, elected new representatives for its seven regions in North America.
The representatives, who will serve for a two-year term, will also function as NIDO Americas board members.
PANA correspondent in New York, who covered NIDO's 2007 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections, reports that the incumbent chairman, Dr Ola Kassim, was returned for another term.
The representatives include new Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Lawal Garba, who will double with Brian Udejiofor to represent region two comprising Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia.
Others are Salisu Abdullah for region one, which consists of Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut, and Victor Ozieh for region three with the Southeastern States of the U.
S.
in his control.
Region four has George Ogbonna, as the NIDO's representative in the Great Lakes States, including Wisconsin.
Region five with Mid West/South Central States comprising North and South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana, has Dr Etti-Williams, as its officer-in-charge.
Richard Soyombo will take charge in region six having Pacific/Rocky Mountain States of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and Alaska.
Chioma Ikejiani was also elected to represent region seven, which has Canada, British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Saskatchewan.
In his post-election remarks, Kassim thanked the delegates for their participation and support to the success of NIDO's 2007 AGM and elections.
"We hope that we have executed our duties in a manner that was in the spirit of our bylaws and hope that our adherence to the bylaws is something that will carry forward our organisation," he stated.
He also congratulated the new board members and reminded them of their campaign promises of "making our NIDO a better organisation in every sense of the word".
Highpoint of the AGM was the conferment of honorary awards on Nigeria's Ambassador to the U.
S.
, George Obiozor and his counterpart in Canada, Ambassador Femi George, for their support to NIDO activities.
