Nigeria's new national airline takes off in October

Lagos- Nigeria (PANA) -- A new airline to replace the ailing national carrier, Nigeria Airways, will be launched in the next three months, Aviation Minister Isa Yuguda said in Lagos Monday.
Yuguda said at the start of a two-day inspection tour of facilities under his ministry that details for the take-off of the new airline would be concluded within 30 days.
But he said the new airline would be private-sector driven because the policy thrust of the federal government precluded it from investing public funds in a new airline or resuscitating Nigeria Airways.
The fortunes of the once viable national carrier have plummeted in recent years due to mismanagement, widespread corruption and crushing debt.
It now has only one aircraft, from as many as 30 in 1979.
