Nigeria police offer 1m naira reward for information on Boko Haram

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The police in Nigeria's northern Borno state have announced a 1 million naira (US$6,300) reward for any information leading to the arrest of members of the Islamic sect Boko Haram and recovery of arms and ammunition in the state.

In a statement, the Borno Police Command said anyone who offers information that leads to the arrest of the sect's members will get 500,000 naira (US$3,169), while information that leads to the recovery of weapons will fetch the informant 500,000 naira (US$3,169).

Information that achieves both will fetch 1 million naira.

The command promised to treat such information with ''utmost confidentiality''.

Borno state is the home-base of the sect, which has killed over 1,200 people since 2009, when it launched its violent campaign aimed at establishing a Sharia state, according to Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin.
