Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - One person was killed and 11 injured on Thursday night when an explosion rocked a beer garden in the Doruwa area of Jalingo, in Nigeria's northern Taraba state, the private Nation newspaper reported Friday.
The paper quoted doctors at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where the victims were taken for treatment, as saying three of those injured were in critical condition.
The attack forced many beer parlours and brothels in the area to quickly close shop.
There has yet been no claim of responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic sect Boko Haram has carried out attacks in the state in the past.
Earlier in the year, the convoy of the Taraba State Police Commissioner was hit by an explosion in Jalingo, but the police boss escaped unhurt, even though 11 people in the nearby Ministry of Finance were killed.
The sect, which has killed over 1,400 people in gun and bomb attacks in its campaign to establish an Islamic state in the predominantly-Muslim northern Nigeria, is opposed to the consumption of alcohol and prostitution.
