Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's federal government has approved US$6 million for the construction of a building to house the ECOWAS Parliament, according to Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who is also the Speaker of the regional parliament.
He told the second ordinary session of the parliament in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, Monday, that the money had already been paid into the parliament's account.
"We have notified the President of the (ECOWAS) Commission of the release of the sum as well as the intention of the parliament to apply it to the purpose for which it was secured," he said.
In the meantime, Ekweremadu said the building currently occupied by the parliament would be renovated, following concerns expressed by the members of parliament over its state.
