Nigeria: Nigeria donates US$1b to fight Ebola in Africa

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's Federal Government has donated US$1 billion to fight the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Africa, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The ministry said in a statement Tuesday that the donation was announced during the international conference of African Ministers of Health in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

The statement said Nigeria supports the establishment of the African Centre for Disease Control which will significantly enhance health targets to build the International Health Regulations Capacities.

EVD has killed 11,276 people most in the West African States of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since its outbreak last year.

Mali, Nigeria and Senegal, as well as four other countries outside Africa, were also affected to a lesser extent.

While the outbreak has been curtailed in most of the countries, it is yet to abate in others.
