Nigeria: Ghana to host 1st ECOWAS Mining/Oil Exhibition

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The 1st Forum/Exhibition of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on mining and oil (ECOMOF 2015) will be held 6-8 Oct. 2015 in Ghana's capital, Accra, an ECOWAS Commission statement obtained by PANA here Thursday said.

It said the event would be preceded by an official launching ceremony scheduled for 26 Sept. 2014 in Accra to be chaired by the Ghanaian authorities in charge of natural resources, energy and oil and the ECOWAS Commissioner for Energy and Mines, Dr Bangoura Morlaye.

The theme of the Forum/Exhibition will be “Harnessing West Africa’s mining and oil resources through regional cooperation.”

The Forum will convene the Ministers of the mining sector, as well as public and private decision-makers operating in the West African mining and oil industries. It will involve interactive workshops, training sessions, plenary sessions, trade shows, country presentations, visits to industries as well as round tables aimed at highlighting and promoting the development of mining and oil resources in West Africa.

The ECOWAS Mining and Oil Forum (ECOMOF) was institutionalised by the region's leaders on the proposal of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and on the recommendation of the ECOWAS Ministers of Mining Resources.

It  aims, among others, to enhance the Community’s mining and oil potentials, promote regional socio-economic integration, develop artisanal and small-scale mining and create geological, mining and oil databases in the ECOWAS member states.
