Nigeria: ECOWAS calls Guinea election 'calm, peaceful, orderly'

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The 11 Oct. 2015 presidential election in Guinea was 'calm, peaceful and orderly', the ECOWAS Election Observers said in their preliminary report on the polls.

The report, obtained by PANA here Tuesday, said the turnout for the election was high in most places visited, while voting began on a largely orderly and peaceful note nationwide.

The observers however noted some hitches, which included some incidents that caused casualties.

''The Mission believes that this election is decisive not only for the consolidation of democratic governance in Guinea, but also for reconciliation and national unity,'' the report said.

Former President of the Liberian Interim Government Amos Sawyer led the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission to Guinea.
