Nigeria: Capital city 'records first Lassa Fever death'

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's capital city of Abuja has recorded its first death from the Lassa Fever outbreak that has claimed over 40 lives across the country since it started in Nov. 2015.

A health ministry's statement said Health Minister Isaac Adewole made the announcement on Wednesday evening at the National Hospital in the capital city.

The Minister was told by the hospital's Medical Director Jack Momoh that the patient was brought in unconscious from a private hospital in Kubwa, a suburb of the city, where he had been admitted for about a week.

According to the Minister, all primary and secondary contacts of the victim, including the staff of the private hospital in Kubwa, should be tracked.
