Nigeria: Anti-narcotics agency probes Nigerian airline crew member caught with cocaine in London

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is probing the crew member of Nigerian carrier Arik Air who was arrested in London Monday night after he was found with 20kg of cocaine.

According to the private Punch newspaper on Wednesday, operatives of the agency stormed the airline's headquarters in the commercial city of Lagos Tuesday night as part of their investigation.

The Arik crew member, identified as Chika Egwu Udensi, was arrested on Monday night by operatives of the United Kingdom Border Force, shortly after an Arik Air plane that departed from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, touched down at the London Heathrow Airport.

It was the third arrest of an Arik Air crew member for drug possession since 2011.

NDLEA Officials put the street value of the drug found with Udensi at 350,000 Pounds Sterling.

The Arik Air management on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of its cabin crew member by the UK Border Force, and said it had commenced investigation into how the banned substance got into the suspect’s possession.
