Nigeria: 21 killed, 17 injured in Abuja shopping mall bombing

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) – The Nigeria Police Wednesday announced that a total of 21 lives were lost while 17 were injured and 17 cars burnt in a bomb blast which occurred Wednesday at the Emab Plaza in the elite Amino Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said the incidence claimed the lives of people mostly shoppers, hawkers and passers-by.

Mba also announced the arrest of two suspects in the bombing but said one of them died on the way to the hospital.

"The other is in police custody undergoing interrogation," Mba said.

Emab Plaza, one of the busiest shopping malls in Abuja where electronic gadgets are sold and repaired, is located close to the popular and busy Banex Plaza.

At the Maitama Hospital, officials confirmed that about 30 casualties were taken in with three of the bodies “completely dismembered.” Officials were referring new victims brought there to the National Hospital.
